How To.. Measure & Order A Canvas Floater Frame
Canvas floater frames (also known as canvas tray frames) make it look like the canvas inside the frame is floating in a special area of the frame. These frames are often used to show off a gallery wrap canvas because the edges of the painting or canvas print don't get hidden, showing off the whole canvas without leaving anything to guess. Canvas Floater Frames come with no glass or backing.
Measuring - 0:06
- Measure both diagonals of your canvas. If the measurements are the same, your canvas is square or rectangular. However, if there's a difference, your canvas's right angles are not correct. This suggests there might be a discrepancy in the width of the gap between your canvas and the frame, as the frames we provide are designed with perfect right angles.
- Measure the width, height, and depth of your canvasses accurately, and record the dimensions.
Remember, Measure Twice And Be Precise

- Please enter the width and height measurements you have recorded into the respective size fields on our website.
- The size of the opening at the front of the frame will be based on the dimensions you enter, along with whether you decide to keep the Shadow Gap option selected. Should you choose the Shadow Gap option, the frame opening will be 10-14mm wider than the dimensions you specify, resulting in a 5-7mm shadow gap on each side. Conversely, if you decide to remove the Shadow Gap option, the frame opening will be only 2-4mm wider than the dimensions you enter, resulting in a significantly smaller gap between the frame and the canvas.
- Select the internal depth options which are within 5mm of the depth measurement you recorded.
- Choose a frame style from the displayed selection.
- Click the frame image to access additional details and photos.
- By default, the frame will come with a velcro-based fitting kit and hanging accessories for the back of the frame, but you're free to include any extra features you might need.
