To measure a limited edition print for framing with precise borders, follow these steps:

Materials Needed

  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Pencil
  • Note paper

Step-by-Step Guide

Determine the Required Border
  1. Decide on the width of the border you want to leave around the print. Here, we are aiming for around 10mm (1 cm) on the top, left, and right sides.
  2. For the bottom border, ensure it is wide enough to accommodate the title and signature of the artist.
Measure the Print Dimensions
  1. Lay the print flat on a clean, smooth surface.
  2. Using the measuring tape or ruler, measure the height and width of the print including the additional borders previously determined. Write down these measurements.
Measure the Paper Dimensions
  1. Measure the total size of the paper, so we can ensure it will fit into the frame without needing to be trimmed. This is achieved by ensuring the external mount size is greater than the paper size of the print.
  2. Record these final dimensions.
Order Online
  1. Enter the first two sizes noted down into our website.
  2. Select the single or double mount option and ensure the EXACT SIZE option is selected as we want the aperture of the mount to be the exact size entered.
  3. Ensure the external border size is greater than the paper size of the print. If it isn't, you can increase the mount border widths until it is.
  4. Proceed through the other framing options. We recommend the barrier board option is selected in the Extras tab as this will protect the print from the MDF backing board by creating a barrier between the two.
Fitting the Print
  1. Place the print within the mount making sure the borders are even, and the title and signature are visible at the bottom.
  2. Secure the print in place using archival tape or hinging techniques to prevent damage.
  3. Add the barrier board to the back of the mounted print.
Final Touches
  1. Assemble the frame, making sure everything is aligned and secure.
  2. Tape up the back of the frame to add extra security.
  3. Hang the framed print in a location that avoids direct sunlight and humidity to preserve its quality.

By following these steps, you can measure and frame your limited edition print perfectly, ensuring the artwork, title, and signature are all beautifully displayed.
