How to order a canvas print in the canvas prints designer: upload your photo, crop it and choose the size, then choose how it's stretched, with white, black or image wrapped edges, or framed in a picture frame or a floater frame. The designer has four tabs, 1 Upload and size to 4 Review, and this guide follows them in three parts, each with its own short video.
Example: a sunset photo cropped to a 3 × 2 landscape, printed at 300 × 200mm and framed in a 10mm black floater frame. Recorded 20 October 2026; prices may change.
Part 1: Upload and size
Upload your photo, crop it if you like, and choose the canvas size.
Upload your photo
In 1 Upload and size, click Upload Image, or drag your photo onto it: a JPG, PNG or PDF. It appears in the preview, filling the canvas.
The note above the size boxes gives the maximum print size for your photo, worked out from its resolution: the more pixels in the file, the bigger it can be printed and still look sharp. Our example photo, 1500 × 1200 pixels, can be printed up to 381 × 305mm. For a bigger canvas, upload a bigger, higher-resolution file.
Crop it
To print just part of your photo, or a different shape, click Crop Image. Under Lock ratio, enter a shape, such as 3 × 2 for a wide landscape, and the crop box takes that shape. Drag the box, or its corners, to choose the part to keep, then click Upload cropped image. Lock ratio sets the shape, not the size.
The cropped photo has its own maximum size, as it uses fewer of the photo's pixels: here, 381 × 254mm.
Choose the size
Type the width or the height, and the other side is worked out for you, keeping the shape of your photo, so nothing is stretched or cut off. Here, a width of 300mm gives a height of 200mm; change the height to 250mm instead, and the width becomes 375mm.
- Canvases are at least 200mm on each side.
- Enter a size larger than your photo's maximum (500mm wide, say) and you're told it's too big for this photo, and nothing is changed. Click Go Back and enter a smaller size.
Part 2: Stretching options and frames
Choose how your canvas is finished: stretched with white, black or image wrapped edges, or framed.
The edges
In 2 Stretching options, your canvas is printed on 390gsm polycotton and stretched by hand round a 20mm deep wooden stretcher frame. Choose what shows on its sides:
- White Edges (selected to start with): plain white sides.
- Black Edges: the sides painted black.
- Image Wrapped: your picture carries on round the sides.
Framed in a picture frame or a floater frame
Or have your canvas framed:
- Framed in Picture Frame: a traditional frame, overlapping the edges of the canvas.
- Framed in Floater Frame: the canvas sits in an open tray with a narrow gap round it, so it seems to float, edges on show.
Then choose the frame in 3 Frames. For a picture frame, pick a colour category (Black/Grey, Dark, Gold and so on), sort by width or price, and click a frame: here, 20mm Black Paint. For a floater frame, click one of the floater frames: here, 10mm Black Stain. The preview shows your canvas in it, and new views appear above the preview, including On a wall, which shows it in a room so you can judge the size.
In the example, the stretched canvas was £25.20 at 300 × 200mm; in the picture frame £44.57; in the floater frame £48.40.
Part 3: Review
Check the specification, save or email your design, and add it to your basket.
4 Review lists everything you've chosen. Check it carefully: canvases are made to order. In the example:
| Printed Canvas Size | 300 × 200mm |
|---|---|
| Frame Style | 328000167 · 10mm Black Stain |
| Frame Size | 300 × 200mm + shadow gap |
| Stretching Option | Stretched for floater framing |
Below the designer are the Canvas specification (the canvas, its finish and the 20mm stretcher depth), the Frame specification if it's framed (width, colour, rebate and total depth), Your design, and Delivery and savings, with volume discounts on identical items.
Save design keeps it in your Design Gallery; Email design sends it to someone else to check. Then click Add to basket.
