Picture Frames or Photo Frames are a way to display your favourite pictures, photographs and art pieces in a creative, new way. They come in many different shapes and sizes so you can find the perfect frame for all your walls.
When you choose frames from EasyFrame, you can decide on the measurements and additional features based on your needs. However, it is important that you measure your art correctly to ensure that the frame will fit correctly. Please read through our easy-to-follow instructions here before ordering to make sure there are no costly mistakes made in this process of getting custom photo frames or picture frames.
Remember: we do not give refunds or exchanges!
We refer to the item you are framing as your artwork, and it is assumed you have considered and prepared your artwork before getting to the measuring stage. Check out our detailed measuring information page which includes illustrations of common types of artwork and how the frames should be measured.
For the huge majority of our customers, the rule is simple - just enter the size of your frame, and our website will calculate all the other necessary measurements for the frames. These basic principles are industry standard and will almost certainly be the same for any other online framer or High Street framing shop.
A mount is a coloured surround that goes around your art before being fitted inside wooden picture frames or a metal frame. Although this is optional, it makes your work more visually appealing and will also add to its conservation by spacing it from the glazed material. A mount is not recommended for any item that is framed without glazing, such as an Oil Painting.
The images below show a graphical example of how the same image with look with and without a mount.
When you choose to have a mount with your picture frame, you have the option between one or two layers (single or double). A single layer would be a more delicate design detail while with a double you can convey an extra visual dimension. The bottom mount should usually match the dominant colour of your artwork, and the top mount should contrast with it in hue but maintain neutrality in tone. If you do not require a mount, just select "No Mounts".
To change the width of the mount borders, use options for each side in each border section. The majority of mounts are designed with equal width borders, but you can opt to have either one or more different border widths by disabling the "equal borders" switch found in these sections.
The default option on our website is for us to cut the opening of the picture mounts 4mm smaller than what you enter, so it will just overlap the image. You can change this option so that the mount opening will be cut to the exact size you input by checking the Exact Size switch. This option is useful it you have already calculated an overlap in your measurements or you are framing an item like a cross stitch and want the aperture to an exact size.
Picture frames or photo frames are the edges around your artwork, whether it is a wooden frame or aluminium metal with glazing and backing.
There are around 500 different frame options in our catalogue - click on the moulding image to get a price quote for a specific type of frame. We've priced all frames from very simple/basic to very elegant, so we have something that every budget and any size masterpiece (painting) can fit into(upto delivery restrictions).
Some mouldings are not suitable for larger frames and therefore each moulding has a limit to how big we can make the frame. Our website will automatically remove mouldings that we deem unsuitable for the sizes you enter. Therefore, you cannot order very thin wooden profiles for large frames as they will simply fall to pieces.
The glazing, aka glass, is the protective front that covers your artwork and is essential for the majority of framing work. At EasyFrame we use high-quality, shatter-resistant acrylic to glaze our frames. We believe it is superior to glass for picture framing in many ways, as it is clearer, doesn't appear green in the light, and offers a higher level of UV protection.
Please do not be put off by the term 'Acrylic'. We DO NOT use cheap styrene glazing commonly found in frames imported from the Far East and sold by budget department stores. Our standard 2mm Clear Acrylic glazing is far superior to normal glass in many ways. It is visually better than glass by offering a higher level of clarity and also offers a greater level of UV protection.
We do not supply glass with any picture frames that are sent via courier due to the increased risk of breakage. If you opt to collect your perfect picture frame from Bedford we will be able to supply glass providing you email this request as soon as your order has been placed.
A custom picture frame will come complete with the hangers to attach and everything else you need, but some types of artwork may require specific fastening.
These tapes and accessories will help create a professionally finished job for your pictures but are not essential.
Kraft tape is highly recommended to seal the back of the frame once the artwork has been fitted. Sealing the back of the frame provides a more professional look as well as adding additional security and strength to the frame.
Ph7-70 tape and Conservation Barrier Board is recommended for all artwork, but in particular, any artwork that carries any value. The tape is used to hinge the artwork to the mount, whilst the barrier board is used to create a barrier board between the artwork and the MDF backing board.
